You may have seen this little green bottle before if you follow skincare-fanatics on Instagram. It’s the Herbivore Emerald Deep Moisture Glow Oil, and it’s been doing the rounds on posts from the US. Now, the cynical-person inside of me thought its popularity was mainly because it’s so easy-on-the-eye. The brand’s pretty, minimal Scandi-style packaging, is perfect for making pretty pictures. But at its Space NK launch, I got my hands on a sample and have bee n using it ever since. I’m not usually one to follow the crowd, but spoiler alert this product is much more than its Instagram-worthy bottle. It’s made me fall in love with face oil again.
Who should use face oil?
If you think you don’t have the right skin type to benefit from using a face oil, you’re wrong. All skin types can use them. They’re great for dry or dehydrated types like mine. I like to use it after my serum and under my moisturiser on days when my skin really needs a moisture boost. If you’ve got combination or oily skin types, don’t be put off by face oils. It’s a common misconception that applying oil onto sebum will make your skin look extra greasy, but this is not the case. Applying oil onto your complexion actually fools your skin into thinking its produced enough sebum and so can help regulate your oil production.
A look at the ingredients…
The contents of this oil are like a who’s who of trending beauty ingredients. Cannabis-infused beauty is trending big time, so let’s start with Hemp Sativa Seed Oil. Please note, that this is not CBD. There’s a big difference between CBD and the hemp oil in this product. CBD skincare is great for soothing any types of inflammation, I tested it for Prima.co.uk – check out how I got on here. Hemp Sativa Seeds has different benefits. It’s rich in omegas, 3, 6, and 9 fatty acids with a multitude of benefits for the skin including strengthening it and increasing hydration.
Other ingredients include Shiitake mushroom, full of antioxidant properties and rich in vitamin D to help protect the skin from environmental aggressors. Then there’s turmeric root, an anti-inflammatory, and squalene, a really great moisture booster.
REVIEW: HERBIVORE EMERALD DEEP MOISTURE GLOW OIL, available at SpaceNK, £42
THEY SAY:
Apply 4-8 drops, morning or night for rich moisture and a glow that is lit – all in a lightweight, quick absorbing formula.
SABINE SAYS:
After using this for over a month, I can say I really love it too. My skin is always dehydrated, so it drinks-up this oil very quickly – so much so I liked to use at least 6 drops. I’ve been using it under my daily face cream for an extra hydration boost, and some days instead of it. There’s no greasy slick-feeling at all, so after a minute or two, I could apply make-up on top. I also like using it at night, spending time massaging my face, which is great for circulation and lymphatic drainage. My skin feels so much more soft with not a dry patch in sight. I truly am obsessed!
