Tired-looking eyes? You need an under-eye mask

tired looking eyes

Going back to work in January is tough. We should be looking (and feeling) revitalised after a break, but that’s often not the case with too many late nights and all the over-indulgence taking its toll. Are you looking more frazzled than fresh? I know I am. And the first place it shows for me is my eyes. Yes, those windows to the soul hide nothing – from puffiness, to dark circles and fine lines. I don’t just get bags, I get triple bags. I look tired, even after eight hours beauty sleep. Whilst, I know its hereditary and diet has a part to play too (especially too much alcohol and salt), I’ve learnt treating them to the right under-eye mask makes my tired looking eyes instantly brighter and more wide-awake. So I always keep them well stocked in my beauty kit.

The skin surrounding our eye area is much thinner, and therefore more delicate, than the rest of our complexion. It gives everything away, it shows when we are tired, have a poor diet, and is often the first place to show signs of ageing. A good eye mask can help counteract these telltale signs, as they are socked in ingredients that will plump fine lines, smooth and hydrate the area (with hyaluronic acid) and have a soothing anti-inflammatory effect for puffiness.

These eye masks come in the form of pads or patches and work just like your trusty sheet-mask – they hail from Korea just like them too. Pop them in the fridge for an extra cooling effect, and place under eyes for required minutes and they’ll leave you with a revitalised eye area. Your tired-looking eyes will feel and look refreshed, just how they really should after a holiday. Use them as needed, or as a regular Sunday pamper session, and your eyes will thank me for it.

THE BEST EYE MASKS TO-PERK UP TIRED-LOOKING EYES

Institut Esthederm Lift and Repair Eye Contour Patches, £53 for 10
These fit my eye shape the best (they are the ones I’m using in the picture), so well I can go about my usual business if I don’t want to relax with them on. My eyes look brighter and my fine lines instantly smoother. And they work out the best value with so many in the box.

Gatineau Collagene expert Smoothing Eye Pads, £8 for 1
Available in single sachets, so a great option to try an eye mask for the first time without the expense. Glycerin is the hydrating ingredient in these, but they are super soothing too. My go-to when my eyes are dry and irritated after a day of long-hours behind the computer.

Verso Reviving Eye Mask, £50 for 4
These pack an extra powerful skincare punch, as they contain retinol. I love these when my lines are more prominent in times of stress.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Hydra-Gel Eye Masks, £50.50 for 6
One of my favourite products from the brand. These are a great excuse to do nothing for 20 minutes. Pop on, sit back, relax, and let the hyaluronic acid work its moisture-boosting magic.
